Scottish Employment Recruitment Incentive: SERI Funding

Modern Apprenticeships for a Modern Workplace

In an effort to help businesses recruit more young people, the government has re-opened SERI Funding for 2018. This scheme targets support at unemployed young people with the greatest barriers to employment. There is an emphasis on training as part of the role, including Modern Apprenticeships.  The scheme enables young people to obtain and remain in sustainable employment. Sixth Sense Training has a history of investing in young people. We are passionate about providing opportunities to those young people that have experienced challenges in life. Time and again we have supported employers in recruiting a young person with barriers to employment. Very often that person has made the most of the opportunity, flourished and became a real asset to the business. A Modern Apprenticeship is a great way for a business to grow and for young people living in Scotland to secure a bright future through experience in the workplace, training and the qualification that they attain.    SERI Funding Stock Image

SERI Funding

SERI funding is administered by Our Skillsforce and allows businesses to obtain up to £4,000 when the business hires a Modern Apprentice (MA). The funding is a contribution towards the additional costs of recruiting a young person during their first 52 weeks of sustainable employment. The incentive is a co-investment in young people with a view to helping businesses grow. It is expected that a minimum of 25% of places allocated to councils will support people who are care experienced, ex-offenders or disabled. Funding is available from 1 April 2018 to 31 January 2019 to private or third sector organisations of any size. You’ll need to recruit someone who is 16-19 years old and fits one or more of the eligible groups. Our expert recruiters can help you determine whether the candidate is eligible and help you navigate the application process. Your business will need to demonstrate the ability to offer a young person employment lasting a minimum of 52 weeks during the modern apprenticeship.
