Scottish Employment Recruitment Incentive Funding 2017

Modern Apprenticeships for a Modern Workplace

Sixth Sense Training has a history of investing in young people and we are passionate about providing opportunities to those young people that have experienced challenges in life. Time and again we have supported employers in recruiting a young person with barriers to employment and that person has made the most of the opportunity, flourished and became a real asset to the business. A Modern Apprenticeship is a great way for business to grow and for young people living in Scotland to secure a bright future through experience in the workplace, training and the qualification that they attain.

In an effort to promote this valuable chance for businesses to build their workforce whilst providing young people with this opportunity, the government has again opened the Scottish Employment Recruitment Incentive (SERI) for 2017, which targets support at unemployed young people with the greatest barriers to employment to enable them to obtain and remain in sustainable employment including Modern Apprenticeships.

SERI is administered by Our Skillsforce and allows your company to get up to £4,000 when the business commits to hiring a Modern Apprentice (MA). The funding is a contribution towards the additional costs of recruiting a young person during their first 52 weeks of sustainable employment.

The incentive is a co-investment in young people with a view to helping businesses grow. As a national minimum, it is expected that 25% of places allocated to local authorities will support young people who are care leavers, carers, an ex-offender or disabled.

Funding is available from 1 April 2017 to 31 January 2018 to private or third sector organisations of any size. You’ll need to recruit someone who is 16-19 years old and fits one or more of the eligible groups. Our expert recruiters can help you determine whether the candidate is eligible and help you navigate the application process.

Your business will need to demonstrate the ability to offer a young person employment lasting a minimum of 52 weeks during the modern apprenticeship.
